Junior Aikido TikTok Challenge

Since the Junior Aikido World Championship has been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re excited to announce the Junior Aikido TikTok Challenge! Upload your Aikido videos to TikTok and we’ll select the top 3 in 3 different categories.

Eligibility:

All students of Yoshinkan Aikido between the ages of 13-18.  (Students younger than 13 must submit videos with the help of their parent; guardian or instructor.)

Application Period:

All videos must be uploaded to TikTok before midnight Japan Standard Time on Thursday the 11th of February 2021 according to the guidelines below.

Categories and Prizes:

  • Technical Category
    Videos showcasing Yoshinkan Aikido basic movements; ukemi and basic techniques.  May also include weapons techniques such as 31 no jo; Aiki Ken; Aiki Jo; tanto.
    1st Place – ¥10,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher
  • Aikido Appeal Category
    Videos aimed at introducing the appeal of Aikido to the world! May also include videos from students that are unable to currently train at their dojos  and that show how Aikido is still a part of their daily life during the pandemic or how Aikido has helped them during the pandemic.
    1st Place – ¥10,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher
  • Other Category
    Any other videos related to Aikido that do not fit into the first two categories.
    1st Place – ¥10,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher
    Joint 2nd Place – ¥5,000* Amazon gift voucher

    *Or equivalent in the local currency. 

Judges and Judging:

  • Videos will be judged by Ando Tsuneo Shihan and other Ryu Affiliate Shihan.
  • Videos in each category will be narrowed down in successive rounds until the final 3 videos in each category are selected.  
  • Applicants whose videos are selected to go to the next round will be notified on TikTok.
  • Prize winners will also be notified on TikTok.

Submission Guidelines:

In order for videos to be eligible applicants must:

  • Follow the @aikido_ryu TikTok account.
  • All videos must be labelled with the video title; their country and the name of the dojo or organisation they belong to. (For applicants or groups that submit more than one video, please make sure that each video is clearly titled for example “Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu Headquarters Dojo Kids Class A”.)
  • For online security and privacy, please avoid using your real name in the video title or in your user name. 
  • All videos must @ the @aikido_ryu account.
  • All videos must contain THREE HASHTAGS: the hashtag #junioraikidotiktokchallenge, the hashtag #aikido plus the hashtag relevant for the category your video is in.

  • Applicants may enter as individuals or as groups. 
  • Applicants may submit one video per person.  Groups or organisations may submit videos one per student.
  • All videos must abide by the rules and community guidelines of TikTok. 
  • The @aikido_ryu account will like your video once it has been posted and we have checked that it meets all the criteria for submission.  If the @aikido_ryu account doesn’t like your video or contact you to explain why your video needs to be re-submitted or doesn’t meet the criteria, please DM us on TikTok to make sure we have seen the video.
